Starting from April 1, 2022, COVID-19 Green Certificate will no longer be compulsory for external users. "Basic" COVID-19 Green Certificate is still requested to access the library to all IMT users. To access to the building, all users must wear a protective mask.
The reading room is open to all users. Our new opening hours are:
MON-THU 9 AM-6.30 PM
FRI-SAT 9 AM-1.30 PM
IMT users can access the building with their personal badge everyday from 7.30 AM to 00.50 AM.
To access to the building, all users must wear a protective mask, sanitize their hands, and check their temperature at the entrance. Access to the building is granted only to users whose temperature is below 37.5˚ C / 99.5˚ F.
EXTERNAL USERS
To use the reading room, external users are required to book a seat via PrenotaluccaIMT or by phone (0583 4326701). In both cases, users must provide the following information:
First and family name.
Email contact.
Phone number
Date of birth.
Date of reservation, and slot they would like to book (morning: 9 am-1.30 pm, or/and afternoon: 1.30 pm-6.30 pm).
Please note that:
Seat reservation is mandatory for the reading room, but it is not necessary to consult reference materials, use library computers, or borrow books.
If they cannot make their appointment or if they leave the reading room before time, users can cancel/check-out their reservation by phone or online. Given the limited number of seats available, cancellation is encouraged.
IMT USERS
To use third floor desks and PhD shared offices, IMT users do not need a reservation (see section: “PhD shared offices and third floor desks”).
Book loan services are available to all users.
If they need a book from our collection, users can:
- ask the staff at the library desk;
- reserve it in advance, by sending us an email at lib@imtlucca.it or through our catalogue (if you do not have the username and password, please send us an email or ask the library staff).
Reservation is recommended.
To borrow books, users need to be registered. If you are not registered, you may fill out the form when you pick up your first loan.
During opening hours, users can ask the library staff for books they would like to borrow. Book reservation is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended.
To reserve a book:
Write an e-mail to lib@imtlucca.it, or place a reservation through our catalogue (if you do not have the username and password, please send us an email or ask the library staff).
Confirmation mail: library staff will confirm you the loan availability by e-mail.
Borrow: pick up reserved books at the library desk during the opening hours.
Users must return books using the book return box located at the main entrance of the library (via Elisa). If they have questions about their loan status, users can email us at lib@imtlucca.it, or they can access their personal area (if you do not have the username and password, please send us an email or ask the library staff).
All users must:
Wear a protective mask at all times;
Keep a safe distance from others (at least 1 m/ 3 ft 3);
Avoid any form of gathering;
Use hand sanitizer for hand disinfection (dispensers are available throughout the library).
IMT users who would like to use a PhD shared office can request a key from the staff at the desk. Offices are only available MON-THU from 9am to 6pm, FRI-SAT from 9 am to 1 pm. Office keys cannot be kept after hours and must be returned to the staff each day by closing time.
Due to sanitary reasons, only one user per day is allowed in each office. Advance reservation is not required, but it is advisable.
Third floor desks are reserved for PhD students. Desks can be used at all times, and there are no assigned seats. When using them, students are required to respect the School’s Covid-19 prevention protocol (keep their protective mask on at all times, sanitize their hands frequently, avoid gatherings, and keep a safe distance from others).
Magazine and newspaper consultation is allowed only at the consultation table, next to the library desk.
Before consulting any reference materials, users are required to sanitize their hands. Only two users at a time can sit at the table, and chairs must not be moved from their assigned place.
The library has one computer available to all users (over 18) who wish to consult our catalogue or browse the internet.
Users are allowed one 1-hour session per day (no reservation needed).
Users need to ask the library staff to activate the computer.
Users must sanitize their hands and the computer keyboard, before and after their session.
Ask the staff for the lockers' keys. Lockers must be vacated by closing time.
Avoid any form of gathering in the restrooms area. Wait for your turn upstairs.
Access to the break room is allowed to one user at a time. Food and drinks are not allowed in the reading room.
In the winter garden, all users must wear a protective mask and avoid any form of gathering.
A water dispenser is active and accessible to all users in the winter garden. When filling up their bottles, users must avoid any contact between their bottle and the dispenser.
The Interlibrary loan service and
MLOL is a free digital library, where users can access ebooks, newspapers, journals, music, films, and many more online resources.
All users can request an account, by sending an email to lib@imtlucca.it. Your request email should contain your ID info (number, type, expiration date) and your Italian fiscal code.

To access our services, library registration is mandatory for external users. The registration form is available at the reception desk.
Most of our electronic resources (e-journals and databases) are also available from anywhere off-campus. See the page Databases in order to check the remote access methods available for each electronic resources.
Library services are also available from remote. You can email us your requests and inquiries at lib@imtlucca.it. The library staff will provide support and answer your questions about:

- PhD theses and plagiarism checks.
