Covid-19: news and library services

Starting from December 6, 2021 to January 15, 2022, external users must be in possession og the so called "super Green Pass" to reserve a seat in the reading room, use the Library computers and cinsult reference materials.

Starting from Monday August 23, external users must be in possession of a Green Pass to reserve a seat in the reading room, use the library computers, and consult reference materials. The validity of each Green Pass is checked by the library staff, together with each user’s identity document. 
The provisions do not apply to IMT School members, children under 12 and those with specific medical certification.


Access to the building

The reading room is open to all users. Our new opening hours are:

MON-FRI 9 AM-1 PM / 2.30 PM-6.30 PM, SAT 9 AM-1PM.

IMT users can access the building with their personal badge everyday from 7.30 AM to 00.50 AM. When they enter a school building for the first time in the day, all IMT users are required to submit the online form “Self declaration for COVID-19 symptoms”.

To access to the building, all users must wear a protective mask, sanitize their hands, and check their temperature at the entrance. Access to the building is granted only to users whose temperature is below 37.5˚ C / 99.5˚ F.

Reading room


To use the reading room, external users are required to book a seat via PrenotaluccaIMT or by phone (0583 4326701). In both cases, users must provide the following information:

  • First and family name.

  • Email contact.

  • Phone number

  • Date of birth.

  • Date of reservation, and slot they would like to book (morning: 9 am-1 pm, or afternoon: 2.30 pm-6.30 pm).

Please note that:

  • Seat reservation is mandatory for the reading room, but it is not necessary to consult reference materials, use library computers, or borrow books.

  • Users can only book one slot per day (morning/afternoon) with one exception (see following).

  • Users who booked a morning slot can book an afternoon slot for the same day. This type of reservation is only allowed after 1 PM for each day and is subject to availability. 

  • If they cannot make their appointment, users can cancel their reservation by phone or online. Given the limited number of seats available, cancellation is encouraged.

To use third floor desks and PhD shared offices, IMT users do not need a reservation (see section: “PhD shared offices and third floor desks”)

IMT users are not allowed to use desks on the ground floor after 6.30 p.m., as they will be sanitized in preparation for the next day.

Borrowing books

Book loan services are available to all users.

Library stacks are not accessible to users.

If they need a book from our collection, users can:

  • ask the staff at the library desk;
  • reserve it in advance, by sending us an email at or through our catalogue (if you do not have the username and password, please send us an email or ask the library staff).

Reservation is recommended.

To borrow books, users need to be registered. If you are not registered, you may fill out the form when you pick up your first loan. 

How to reserve a library item

During opening hours, users can ask the library staff for books they would like to borrow. Book reservation is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended.

To reserve a book:

  • Write an e-mail to, or place a reservation through our catalogue (if you do not have the username and password, please send us an email or ask the library staff).

  • Schedule an appointment: in your e-mail, specify the date and time you would like to pick up your book(s). The library staff will confirm your appointment by e-mail.

  • Borrow: pick up reserved books at the library desk at the scheduled time and date.

Return an item

Users must return books using the book return box located at the main entrance of the library (via Elisa). If they have questions about their loan status, users can email us at, or they can access their personal area (if you do not have the username and password, please send us an email or ask the library staff).

Rules to follow inside the building

All users must:

  • Wear a protective mask at all times;

  • Keep a safe distance from others (at least 1 m/ 3 ft 3);

  • Avoid any form of gathering;

  • Use hand sanitizer for hand disinfection (dispensers are available throughout the library).

PhD shared offices and Third Floor desks

IMT users who would like to use a PhD shared office can request a key from the staff at the desk. Offices are only available MON-FRI from 9am to 6pm, SAT from 9 am to 1 pm. Office keys cannot be kept after hours and must be returned to the staff each day by closing time.

Due to sanitary reasons, only one user per day is allowed in each office. Advance reservation is not required, but it is advisable. 

Third floor desks are reserved for PhD students. Desks can be used at all times, and there are no assigned seats. When using them, students are required to respect the School’s Covid-19 prevention protocol (keep their protective mask on at all times, sanitize their hands frequently, avoid gatherings, and keep a safe distance from others).

Magazines and newspapers

Magazine and newspaper consultation is allowed only at the consultation table, next to the library desk. 

Before consulting any reference materials, users are required to sanitize their hands. Only two users at a time can sit at the table, and chairs must not be moved from their assigned place.

Library computers

The library has one computer available to all users (over 18) who wish to consult our catalogue or browse the internet. 

  • Users are allowed one 1-hour session per day (no reservation needed).

  • Users need to ask the library staff to activate the computer.

  • Users must sanitize their hands and the computer keyboard, before and after their session.

Lockers and restrooms

Lockers are temporarily not available.

Avoid any form of gathering in the restrooms area. Wait for your turn upstairs.

Break room and winter garden 

Access to the break room is allowed to one user at a time. Food and drinks are not allowed in the reading room.

In the winter garden, all users must wear a protective mask and avoid any form of gathering. 

The water dispenser is active and accessible to all users. When filling up their bottles, users must avoid any contact between their bottle and the dispenser.

ILL and DD services

The Interlibrary loan service and Document Delivery Service (via Nilde) are only available to IMT users. Users can email us at for questions and inquiries.

MLOL - Digital Library

MLOL is a free digital library, where users can access ebooks, newspapers, journals, music, films, and many more online resources. 

All users can request an account, by sending an email to Your request email should contain your ID info (number, type, expiration date) and your Italian fiscal code.
