Transformative agreements are particular contracts stipulated with publishers to convert the traditional “Pay per view” model into the “Read and Publish” one. This model allows authors to publish their works in open access at no additional cost.
At the moment, IMT School subscribes to the following transformative agreements through CRUI-CARE negotiation:
Contract period: 2022-2025
Contents: full-text access to the publications accessible on the ACM Digital Library platform and the possibility for authors affiliated with the IMT School to publish in open access on the hybrid journals, the gold open access journals and on the conference proceedings.
Management of open-access publication: corresponding authors affiliated with the IMT School, can publish in open-access research and review articles, conference or proceedings papers, short papers, technical notes, tutorials, case studies, interviews e surveys, by using institutional email at the moment of the submission. The publication is under a Creative Common license and authors retain copyright.

As of January 2025, applying for facilities (vouchers or discounts) for publications in gold open-access journals will no longer be possible.
Contract period: 2023-2027
Contents: full-text access to the publications of the subscribed collections accessible on the Science Direct platform and the possibility for authors affiliated with the IMT School to publish in open access on the subscribed journals at no additional cost.
Where it's possible to publish: in hybrid journals included in subscribed collections and all Cell Press journals. Check the eligibility of a journal with the tool at this link.
Accepted contributions: original research articles, review articles, case reports, and short communications.
Publication license: CC-BY (recommended); CC-BY NC-ND.
Management of open-access publication: all authors affiliated with the IMT School can publish open-access articles taking advantage of the benefits of the agreement. The submission must be made using the formal name of the institution (Scuola IMT Alti Studi Lucca) and the institutional email address. The number of articles granted for publication is limited for the contract's first two years (2023 and 2024) and unlimited for the remaining years.
Contract period: 2025-2027
Contents: access to the full text of all the publications included in the IEEE Xplore platform and the possibility for authors affiliated with the IMT School to publish in open access. Overlength and colour charges are not included.
Accepted contributions: original papers, review paper, original research.
License of publication: CC-BY 4.0 (suggested); CC-BY NC-ND.
Management of open-access publications: Eligible Authors will be identified through at least one of the following parameters: their institution name, their e-mail domain, or the Institution Ringgold. The Institution shall confirm or deny that the author is an affiliated author, as provided by IEEE. The number of articles per year is not unlimited; a maximum number has been set for all participating universities, as follows: 142 for 2025 (covering the last two months), 900 for 2026, and 1000 for 2027.
Contract period: 01/07/2025 - 30/06/2029
Contents: access to the full text of all journals included in the SpringerLink and Nature Academics platforms; the possibility to publish in open access in all hybrid journals.
Management of open-access publication: corresponding authors affiliated with the IMT School can publish open-access original papers and review papers. The APCs (Article Processing Charges) are fully borne by the IMT School until funds run out. Accepted articles will be published under a Creative Commons CC-BY license. Only articles accepted for publication since 1st July 2025 are covered by the contract.
